(March 30, 2015) Every June in Shizuoka, a joint American-Japanese ceremony is held to commemorate the souls of those who lost their lives in air raids in Shizuoka during World War II, including the crew of a crashed B-2. Usually, the relatives of the deceased and U.S. military personnel attend. In March 2015, Shizuoka City planted 25 Friendship Blossoms dogwood trees to honor Dr. Sugano Hiroya, a Shizuoka physician, who organized the memorial service for many years as a way to strengthen the U.S.-Japan relationship.
