Kelsey Wurster - Fall 2022

I am sincerely grateful for receiving a scholarship. I would not have been able to make all of these wonderful memories without the support of your donations. The Bridging Scholarship has allowed me to immerse myself into Japanese language and culture. This past year, I have obtained experiences that I would have never been able to gain within a traditional classroom.

During the month of November, I was able to visit Miyajima twice. I had always dreamed about visited the island during the autumnal season. Together with the other international students of Hiroshima Jogakuin University, we had the unique opportunity to make Momiji manjū at a specialty shop. I have also had the opportunity to take part in my first school festival. I appreciate how much Japanese universities emphasize cooperation and community building.

Even though it has only been about a quarter of the year that I will be living in Japan, my Japanese language skills have improved drastically. I cannot wait to see how much more progress I will make by the end of my time here in Japan. After I graduate, I would like to pursue a career in Japanese to English translation. This study abroad experience has been vital for shaping my career path. I cannot wait to see what is in store for my future. Thank you for being a part of it.

Below is a picture of me (black shirt) with the friends that I have made at Hiroshima Jogakuin University’s Tea Ceremony club. 😊

Please accept my deepest gratitude,
Kelsey Wurster
